Good Standup

Watching WMBD at 6. Cool standup by Liza Danver for a cloning story... someone in production did a nice job of turning her into three reporters. Now if she can just figure out a way to get some overtime out of that...

Update: got an e-mail from Mary Brown, the photographer on the story, who said they came up with the idea even before they shot. That's the kind of teamwork I like to see.

yeah, way to make the only thing anyone remembers about the story you.

I can take and defend two distinct points of view on this comment.

Philosophically, as a story teller, no, the story is not about the reporter.

But doing something memorable can go a long way towards connecting with and building a relationship with your audience.

Liza asked people in the newsroom if the stand up was "cheesy". I said people are going to remember that story. For those of you not 'on air' or who don't work in a newsroom... more people seem to remember your hair, makeup or clothing from the day before rather than the stories. (Unless it's big news like last week) It amazes me that some people are more worried about those attributes rather than what's happening in their community.
